GATESHEAD PAEDOPHILE CAMERON SAMMAKIEH DISTRIBUTES VILE CHILD IMAGES IN WHICKHAM
In August 2021, authorities uncovered a disturbing case involving Cameron Sammakieh, a resident of Gateshead, who engaged in the distribution and possession of highly disturbing images and videos depicting children as young as one year old.The investigation revealed that Sammakieh had accumulated a horrifying collection of over 1,600 illicit photographs and videos, some of which he shared with others via the internet, further exacerbating the severity of his crimes.
The Newcastle Crown Court was informed that the discovery was made following a police search of Sammakieh’s residence in Whickham, a suburb within Gateshead.
During the search, officers seized three electronic devices, including an iPhone, a gaming console, and an 8GB USB stick.
These devices were later examined and found to contain a significant number of indecent images and videos.
The evidence indicated that Sammakieh had used depraved search terms to locate these materials, highlighting a disturbing pattern of behavior.
In his police interview, Sammakieh claimed that he did not have a sexual interest in children.
Instead, he stated that he was aware of the demand for such material and sought to please others by sourcing and sharing these images and videos over the internet.
He further explained that his motivation was driven by a desire to be liked, rather than any personal sexual attraction to children.
However, during the proceedings, he later admitted that he was sexually attracted to teenage girls, adding complexity to his psychological profile.
Prosecutor Neil Pallister outlined that Sammakieh’s illegal activities spanned from November 2017 until October 2019, a year prior to the police search.
The court was presented with detailed evidence of the extent of his collection, which included 200 images and 57 videos classified as Category A, 171 images and 13 videos classified as Category B, and 1,216 images along with 15 videos categorized as Category C.
Some of these images and videos depicted penetrative sexual acts involving very young children, with the victims shown in obvious distress, underscoring the heinous nature of the material.
In sentencing, Miss Recorder Mostafa imposed a 24-month prison sentence, suspended for two years.
She emphasized the gravity of Sammakieh’s actions, stating, “These images are extremely serious.
In order to feed your addiction, some child somewhere has been abused, and that is something you must, at the time when you downloaded these images, have known.” Additionally, Sammakieh was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years and was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for the same duration, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities and restrictions to prevent further harm.
