BLACKBURN MAN AVOIDS JAIL AFTER SPAT AND HARASSMENT TOWARDS EX-PARTNER
Cal Cottrell, aged 31 and residing on Ridgeway Avenue, Blackburn, was involved in a criminal incident where he spat at, pushed, and threw wine over his former partner, Deborah Dakin.Despite being warned by a police officer during a threatening phone call, he continued to harass her.
The incident occurred after their relationship, which lasted 18 months, had ended and both had initially tried to remain friends.
The court heard that Cottrell's behaviour included repeatedly calling at her home despite not being welcome, which frightened her.
He pleaded guilty to harassment and was given a conditional discharge for 12 months, as well as ordered to pay £65.
The prosecution described the incident as part of a pattern of abusive and threatening behaviour during a period of emotional stress.
The defendant's solicitor noted that the offence was committed during a stressful time and emphasized that the couple had split after two years of commitment, with trust having broken down after their separation in January.
The court articulated the impact of his actions on the victim and the ongoing harassment despite warnings from authorities.
