BRYAN KEARNS FROM CANNING TOWN AND COLCHESTER JAILED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF TEENAGE RUNAWAY

In a case that has spanned over three decades, Bryan Kearns, a 67-year-old man with connections to both Canning Town and Colchester, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for the sexual abuse of a teenage runaway. The disturbing events date back to the winter of 1978, when Kearns allegedly manipulated a 15-year-old boy into believing he was acting as a guardian angel, only to commit heinous acts of sexual assault against him.

The victim, a teenage boy who had run away from home, was reportedly targeted by Kearns in London. The pensioner is accused of repeatedly raping the young boy during that period. Furthermore, Kearns is alleged to have involved the teenager in recruiting other runaway boys from the streets of London, further complicating the case and highlighting the extent of his misconduct.

In a separate court appearance in January 2008 at Snaresbrook Crown Court, Kearns faced allegations concerning a different incident involving a teenage boy. The court was informed that Kearns, who resides on D’Arcy Road in Colchester, denied any sexual contact with the 14-year-old. He claimed that he met the boy outside a gay nightclub in London in April 1979 and offered him a meal and a place to stay for a night or two, out of sympathy.

Kearns stated that he was “shocked” upon discovering that the teenager was working as a rent boy, a term used for male sex workers. Despite the allegations, Kearns insisted that he had no sexual attraction to the boy and that no inappropriate contact occurred. He explained that the young man, who is now an adult with two children, stayed at his home in Bingley Road, Canning Town, for approximately two weeks. Kearns emphasized that he did not share his bed with the teenager, asserting, “In no way, that did not happen.”

The court also reviewed Kearns’s criminal history, which includes five convictions for indecent assault on a 14-year-old dating back to 1983. These convictions add a grave context to the current allegations and sentencing.

Throughout the proceedings, Kearns maintained his innocence, denying accusations that he pretended to rescue the boy in Soho before assaulting him and taking him to a flat in Bethnal Green, east London, where he claims he was not present. He stated, “I have no friends in Bethnal Green,” dismissing the allegations of involvement in any abuse there.

The case underscores the long-lasting impact of abuse and the importance of justice, with Kearns now facing the consequences of his actions after years of allegations and legal proceedings. His connections to Canning Town and Colchester have been highlighted as part of the broader investigation into his past conduct.
