BRIAN TURNBULL IN CUMBRA ARREST FOR ATTEMPTED MEET WITH UNDERAGE GIRL IN NEWCASTLE
A married man and father of one, Brian Turnbull, was caught by 'paedophile hunters' after trying to meet a 13-year-old girl, just minutes away from the hospital where his wife and daughter were receiving treatment.Turnbull was confronted by members of the online vigilante group Dark Justice after traveling from Cumbria to Newcastle with his family.
The family had made an 80-mile journey to attend an appointment at the skin graft clinic at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary.
While his wife and daughter waited inside the hospital, Turnbull went to nearby Exhibition Park in an attempt to meet the underage girl for kissing and cuddling.
The 60-year-old, who described his wife as 'the worst luck,' had been chatting with the decoy girl on WhatsApp, calling her 'gorgeous' and sharing explicit images of himself.
He also mentioned that his wife was 'a pain in the a**e.
Wingin’ and winin’ all the time.' When confronted by Dark Justice, Turnbull claimed he 'wouldn't have classed his behaviour as sexual grooming' and dismissed it as 'just a laugh.' He was subsequently arrested and admitted to inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
A member of Dark Justice commented, 'This was a weird case in total.
He was coming to Newcastle with his wife and daughter so she could go to the skin graft clinic at the RVI.
While she was in there he wanted to meet this child.
It baffles your mind, the lengths these people will go to to groom children.' Turnbull was detained within 10 minutes of the mother and daughter leaving for their treatment.
The member added, 'I think afterwards they went back to Cumbria and just left him here.' Turnbull stated that he was in the middle of a divorce, claiming his wife would leave him following this incident.
He was identified as one of the older offenders caught by Dark Justice.
At Carlisle Crown Court, Turnbull, from Aspatria, Wigton, received a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years.
He was also ordered to complete a 30-day rehabilitation requirement and must register as a sex offender for seven years.
