Brian Snaith

Scunthorpe Maltby Sexual Abuser

October 2019 Rapist who attacked young girl after playing pornographic videos to her is jailed A sex offender who raped a young girl after playing pornographic videos to her – leaving her with huge problems – has been jailed for more than 10 years. The victim’s confidence had been “massively knocked” and she feared that her ordeal would haunt her for the rest of her life, a court heard. Brian Snaith, 65, formerly of Scunthorpe, admitted raping a girl under 13. Craig Lowe, prosecuting, told Grimsby Crown Court that Snaith touched the girl intimately while a pornographic video was playing on the TV. On another occasion, he again put a pornographic video on and told the girl that they were going to copy what was happening in the film. “She did not realise how wrong it was until she was older,” said Mr Lowe. Snaith touched the girl intimately and raped her. The girl later said: “I feel nothing but hurt really. He has had a massive impact on my life. “I feel my confidence has been massively knocked. I am not the person I should be. “For the rest of my life, it will basically haunt me. “I am still on medication and I don’t want to be on it for the rest of my life.” Snaith had previous convictions for violence and benefit fraud. Judge John Thackray QC told him: “No words can adequately describe the effects of your offending. “Your victim may never fully recover. Your offending has had and will continue to have an enormous impact upon her life. “She has suffered from depression and anxiety and has required medication. “Your offending has massively affected her confidence. The court commends her bravery in contacting the police and being ready to give evidence.” Robert Sandford, mitigating, said Snaith claimed he had no recollection of the incidents but accepted what the girl had said. There had been no other sexual offences. He had significant health problems. Snaith, now of Maltby, Rotherham, was jailed for 10 years and four months. He will be on extended licence of a year after his release from prison. He will have to notify his details as a sex offender indefinitely.
