NORTHAMPTON MAN JAILED FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE OVER 10-YEAR PERIOD
Brian Smith, a man aged 75 from Northampton, has received a 21-year prison sentence after being found guilty of abusing several children over a span of more than a decade. His crimes include sexually assaulting one boy and three girls, in addition to compelling them to view pornography.
His offending activities also involved acts of rape occurring from 1991 through the 2000s.
Smith, who previously lived at Simon De Senlis Court on Robert Street, faced 27 charges at Northampton Crown Court last year, which encompassed rape, indecent assault, and the production of indecent images of children under 14.
The court jury convicted him on 14 counts, while he admitted guilt to the remaining charges, which are set for a retrial.
Besides his prison term, he will be on licence for a further year after release, and has been registered on the sex offender list indefinitely.
Northamptonshire Police’s Det Sgt Ryan Tilly commented that it was a relief to see justice done, saying, "I am really pleased that Brian Smith has finally been brought to justice for his horrific sexual offending, and whilst nothing will ever erase what happened to these four people, I hope this significant sentence provides them with some sense of justice." He also commended the victims for their courage in reporting the crimes, aiding the investigation, and giving evidence in court.
