BRIAN DAVIES OF LEOMINSTER SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN WORCESTER
In a case that has shocked the community of Leominster, Brian Davies, a 26-year-old man residing on High Street, was handed a lengthy prison sentence of 12 years at Worcester Crown Court for a series of heinous sexual offences committed against two young girls. The conviction followed a detailed trial during which Davies faced a total of 19 charges, including rape, sexual assault, indecent assault, and oral sex involving children.Judge Denis Desmond, who presided over the case, described Davies as an 'extremely dangerous' individual. The court heard that Davies had employed manipulative tactics such as grooming and bribery to exploit the innocence of the young victims. Most of these offences occurred when Davies was still a teenager, which the judge noted was a mitigating factor that resulted in a somewhat less severe sentence than might have been imposed had he been an adult at the time.
The jury was informed that the sexual assaults took place in various locations around Leominster, including secluded woods, an alleyway, behind a church, and inside an abandoned house. Prosecutor Gareth Walters detailed the disturbing nature of the crimes, revealing that one of the victims was only five and a half years old when the abuse began, while the other was just a year older. Both girls suffered significant psychological trauma as a result of Davies' actions.
During the proceedings, defence lawyer Dafydd Roberts acknowledged that Davies had engaged in planning and grooming, but he argued that his client did not pose a danger to the public. Despite this, the judge took a firm stance on the severity of the offences and the impact on the victims.
As part of the court's ruling, Davies was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order that will last for ten years, explicitly prohibiting him from having unsupervised contact with any child under the age of 16. Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
Impact statements read aloud in court painted a grim picture of the lasting effects on the victims. One girl revealed that she had wet the bed until she was 11, lost significant weight, and turned to alcohol by the age of 16. The other victim described how her confidence was shattered, and she continued to suffer from recurring nightmares, feeling constant shame and embarrassment about her experiences. The case underscores the devastating consequences of Davies' actions and highlights the importance of justice for vulnerable children in the community of Leominster.
