CASSANDRA SCOTT MURDERS MOTHER IN MANCHESTER AND COVERS UP CRIME

Cassandra Scott, a 36-year-old woman from Manchester, has been found guilty of the brutal murder of her mother, Beverley Scott, who was 58 years old at the time of her death. The tragic incident unfolded sometime between March 25, 2021, and April 1, 2021, a period during which Beverley was last seen at a local pharmacy in Manchester. According to court reports, the prosecution detailed how Cassandra inflicted multiple stab wounds upon her mother, with police confirming that she was ordered to serve a minimum of 17 years behind bars for her actions.

During the trial, Cassandra claimed that her actions were in self-defense. She alleged that her mother had attempted to attack her with a kitchen knife, which led her to retaliate violently. The evidence presented showed that Cassandra stabbed Beverley at least ten times, targeting her shoulders, back, and neck. One of these wounds was severe enough to puncture her mother's lung, indicating the extent of the violence involved.

Following the attack, Cassandra took steps to conceal her crime. She wrapped her mother’s body in plastic sheeting, blankets, and paint, and then stored it in a cupboard beneath the stairs of their shared residence in Longsight, Manchester. The body remained undiscovered for approximately two months until staff members from a housing association forced entry into the property. They found Beverley's body in a state of undress, partially covered with rugs and blankets, efforts clearly made to hide the bloodstains and the evidence of the murder.

After the discovery, Cassandra left the scene, taking her mother’s dog with her. Eventually, she turned herself in to the police, accepting responsibility for her mother’s death. Despite her confession, Cassandra initially pleaded not guilty, maintaining her claim of self-defense and loss of control. However, the jury rejected her defense, and her attempts to justify her actions were dismissed.

The prosecution argued that Cassandra had deliberately sought to cover up her crime in a devious manner, which contributed to the severity of her sentence. The court sentenced her to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 17 years before she could be considered for parole. The case highlights the tragic loss of Beverley Scott and the disturbing circumstances surrounding her death in Manchester, with the legal proceedings underscoring the gravity of her daughter’s actions and the subsequent cover-up.
