LONDON MAN JAILED FOR MURDER OF WIFE WHO SOUGHT DIVORCE
Bentley Huggins, aged 41 and from southeast London, was convicted in connection with the murder of his wife, Desirie Thomas, who was 35 years old.
The incident took place inside their residence in Woolwich.
During the trial at the Old Bailey, it was revealed that on the day she requested a divorce, Huggins ambushed her and inflicted fatal stab wounds from behind, hitting her neck and face.
Huggins maintained that he was a victim of abuse, but the jury dismissed these assertions and found him guilty of murder.
Prosecutor Zoe Johnson, QC, characterized Huggins as a self-interested individual with a sense of entitlement and an outlook that women should be subordinate to his needs.
The judge handed down a life sentence with a minimum of 20 years, highlighting the brutal and prolonged nature of the attack and referencing Huggins’ previous violent behavior towards his wife.
