SUITCASE DOUBLE MURDER: YOSTIN MOSQUERA GIVEN LIFE SENTENCE
A man who murdered two men and dumped their remains in suitcases near Clifton Suspension Bridge has been sentenced to life imprisonment.Yostin Mosquera, 35, denied murdering Paul Longworth and Albert Alfonso, but a jury at Woolwich Crown Court found him guilty in July.
He was sentenced to a minimum of 40 years and 264 days on Friday by Judge Justice Bennathan, who described the murders as "thoroughly wicked crimes" and stated: "I stress that is a minimum, you may never be safe to set free." The jury heard that Colombian national Mosquera "decapitated and dismembered" the pair while staying at their flat in Shepherd's Bush, London, before putting some remains in two suitcases which he dragged to the suspension bridge in Bristol.
Earlier, Mosquera pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of children and was sentenced to 16 months concurrently with his double-murder sentence.
He was also involved in a network sharing indecent images of children, with thousands of such images found on his laptop, according to the judge.
During the trial, Mosquera admitted killing Mr Alfonso but claimed it was manslaughter due to loss of control and blamed Mr Longworth’s death on Mr Alfonso.
Court evidence showed that Mosquera had traveled from Medellin, Colombia, to England, where he met Mr Alfonso for the first time in 2023, after years of Skype conversations.
The pair engaged in extreme sexual activities, and Mosquera’s motives appeared to include financial gain, as Mr Alfonso paid him for videos and provided other benefits.
The court also noted Mosquera’s involvement in violent acts, including the killing of Mr Longworth with a hammer prior to the murder of Mr Alfonso during a filmed sex session.
The police found remains in their flat and Mosquera’s phone and computer contained disturbing images.
He claimed to have been manipulated and treated badly, but the court found the relationships transactional and driven by profit and violent pursuits.
