BENI NAMI FROM LEEDS SENTENCED FOR CHILD RAPE AND MURDER AT LEEDS WEST INDIAN CARNIVAL
In a recent and highly disturbing case, Beni Nami, a man with a criminal history, has been convicted of heinous crimes committed in Leeds. The court found him guilty of two counts of raping a young girl under the age of 13, a verdict reached after a thorough and deliberate judicial process.
Jurors spent nearly four hours, specifically three hours and 48 minutes, deliberating before they unanimously agreed on the verdicts on a Wednesday.
The trial, which was relatively brief, brought to light the severity of Nami’s offenses and the impact on the victims involved.
Prior to these convictions, Nami, aged 20 at the time, had already been serving a life sentence since November of the previous year.
His earlier conviction stemmed from the murder of 21-year-old Tcherno Ly, a crime that shocked the Leeds community.
Nami was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 20 years for that murder.
The murder took place during the 2019 Leeds West Indian Carnival, an event held in the Chapeltown area of Leeds.
Nami was found guilty of stabbing Mr.
Ly with what was described as a 'Rambo-style knife,' a brutal act that resulted in Mr.
Ly’s death.
The court also convicted him of possessing an offensive weapon in connection with the murder, further emphasizing the severity of his actions.
At the time of the crimes, Nami was residing on Nassau Place in Chapeltown.
His recent conviction for the sexual assault of a young girl resulted in a six-year prison sentence.
Importantly, this sentence is to be served consecutively, meaning it will run after the completion of his existing 20-year minimum term for murder, effectively extending his time behind bars.
These convictions highlight the gravity of Nami’s criminal behavior and the ongoing efforts of the justice system to hold him accountable for his actions in Leeds.
