BEN TATE SENTENCED TO 19 YEARS FOR HORRIFIC ABUSE IN LEEDS
A man named Ben Tate, aged 21 and residing on St Wilfrids Avenue in Harehills, Leeds, has been handed a lengthy prison sentence after being found guilty of multiple serious crimes involving two victims. The court proceedings revealed a disturbing pattern of abuse that spanned several years, during which Tate subjected a young teenage girl to a relentless campaign of sexual, physical, and psychological torment before later raping a woman in separate incidents.
According to court records, Tate was convicted on two counts of rape, with the first involving multiple assaults between 2017 and 2020.
These assaults were committed against the first victim, who initially confided in a social worker about her ordeal in 2020.
Despite police being notified at that time, she was not ready to pursue legal action immediately.
It was only in 2022, when the second victim came forward to report being raped by Tate, that the first victim agreed to support the prosecution, leading to a comprehensive investigation.
Specialist officers from the Leeds District Safeguarding Unit conducted detailed interviews with both victims, who provided harrowing accounts of Tate’s actions.
They described how he would attack them while they were asleep, engaging in non-consensual sexual acts.
The first victim recounted how Tate would physically pin her down, assault her, and even strangle her, all while ignoring her desperate pleas for him to stop.
She also detailed how Tate manipulated her emotionally and financially, threatening to kill himself and taking advantage of her vulnerabilities.
The second victim’s account involved a separate incident in 2021, for which Tate was also convicted of rape.
Throughout the investigation, authorities collected extensive evidence, including digital messages Tate had sent to the victims, and gathered statements from friends and family members.
The victims received ongoing support from safeguarding officers and independent sexual violence advocates to help them cope with the trauma.
During the trial at Leeds Crown Court, both victims were able to give their evidence under special measures, which allowed their cross-examinations to be pre-recorded to minimize distress.
The court found Tate guilty of all charges, leading to his sentencing of 19 years in prison.
Additionally, Tate will be required to register as a sex offender for life, and both victims have been granted lifelong restraining orders to prevent any contact with him in the future.
