BANARIS HUSSAIN SENTENCED IN HUDDERSFIELD FOR GROOMING AND RAPE OF TEENAGE GIRL

A man identified as Banaris Hussain has been handed a ten-year prison sentence after being convicted of raping a teenage girl in Huddersfield. The court proceedings took place at Leeds Crown Court, where Hussain, aged 36 and residing in Crosland Moor, was found guilty of his involvement in the sexual abuse of a young girl. The case is part of a broader investigation into a grooming gang operating within the town, which has resulted in the conviction of a total of 27 men to date for their roles in sexual exploitation and abuse.

During the sentencing, Hussain was taken into custody, and he reportedly claimed that the verdict was a 'miscarriage of justice.' The court heard that Hussain was part of a group that groomed the girl, who was between 14 and 15 years old at the time of the assault. Several other men were present during the incident and also participated in abusing her. The judge, Geoffrey Marson QC, refrained from reiterating previous comments but acknowledged the profound trauma inflicted on the victims. He emphasized that Hussain showed no remorse for his actions and highlighted that the offence occurred when the girl was just 14 or 15, with multiple individuals involved in the abuse.

In addition to Hussain's sentence, other men involved in the case received significant prison terms. Umar Zaman, aged 31, and Samuel Fikru, aged 32, were sentenced to eight years each for their roles in the rape. Another man, aged 32, was sentenced to 14 years for multiple counts of rape. Several other offenders received sentences ranging from seven to eight years, although their identities remain undisclosed due to legal restrictions.

West Yorkshire Police expressed their support for the verdicts, describing the actions of the offenders as 'depraved.' They also stated that they hope the lengthy sentences will provide some measure of relief to the victims, who continue to process the trauma of their experiences. The offences in question took place over a period spanning from 2005 to 2008, during which the victims, aged between 12 and 16, were subjected to grooming, drug and alcohol abuse, and were passed around among the men involved in the grooming gang. The case underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to bring justice to victims of such heinous crimes in Huddersfield and highlights the serious consequences faced by those involved in these criminal activities.
