ASHLEY WILLOCK AND HIS SHOCKING SEXUAL ASSAULT IN YORKSHIRE
In a disturbing case that has garnered attention in Yorkshire, Ashley Wilcock, a 25-year-old man from Goole, was sentenced after being convicted of a serious sexual assault that took place on June 13, 2018.The incident involved Wilcock behaving in a highly aggressive and intoxicated manner towards a 17-year-old girl, leading to a prolonged and alarming confrontation.
According to court proceedings, Wilcock, who was heavily intoxicated at the time, had sent a message to the girl indicating he would be passing her home in Goole and inquiring if she wanted to share a cigarette.
On arriving, he entered her residence despite her request for him to leave, displaying increasingly hostile behavior.
A tense situation escalated when Wilcock, in a drunken and aggressive state, smashed a bottle of wine, which resulted in the glass cutting his hand bloodied.
Later, he tried to kiss the girl on her neck, leaving a mark, and made unwanted physical contact by touching her thighs and over her clothing on her chest.
During this frightening ordeal, which lasted approximately 30 to 45 minutes, he left a blood-stained handprint on her T-shirt.
The young woman repeatedly asked Wilcock to stop and leave her alone as he continued with his unwanted advances.
Despite her pleas, Wilcock refused to exit the property and even followed her as she attempted to leave, breaking her sense of safety.
At one point, he took her mobile phone in a bid to prevent her from calling the police and threw it onto a nearby chair.
Eventually, Wilcock climbed over a rear garden fence and departed the scene, but the incident left a lasting impact on the victim.
The court heard that the following day, Wilcock visited the girl’s workplace to apologize, indicating some level of remorse for his actions.
The prosecution also highlighted that Wilcock had a history of violence, having previously been convicted of assaulting a police officer, causing criminal damage to a woman’s light, and in November 2019, breaking a woman’s wrist during a fight involving two women.
These prior convictions pointed to a troubling pattern of violent and aggressive behavior.
During the proceedings, the defense lawyer, Nick Peacock, acknowledged the unsavory nature of the incident and emphasized Wilcock’s efforts to reform.
He pointed out that Wilcock had been struggling with alcohol issues at the time of the assault but had since made considerable efforts to reduce his drinking and avoid situations that could lead to trouble.
Wilcock had been employed for two years and was expecting a child with his girlfriend, who was soon to give birth.
Judge Mark Bury addressed Wilcock, noting the severity and duration of the incident.
He stated, “You made unwanted sexual advances to her.
You were not just making advances, you were aggressive and you were drunk.
She tried for three-quarters of an hour to avoid you by going out into the garden.
In your favor, you did try to apologise the next day when you had sobered up.” The judge expressed concerns that Wilcock’s behavior and previous convictions suggested a potential underlying problem with women.
As part of his sentencing, Wilcock was given a one-year suspended prison sentence.
He is also required to participate in a sex offender treatment program, complete 55 days of supervised rehabilitation, and remain abstinent from alcohol.
Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, reflecting the seriousness with which the court viewed his actions and risk to the community.
Wilcock, now residing on Margaret Road in Fairfield, Barnsley, faces the ongoing obligation to adhere to the conditions set forth by the court while working to address his behavioral issues.
