ASHLEY NIBBS SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS FOR RAPE IN BRADFORD
A man from Bradford, Ashley Nibbs, aged 34, has been sentenced to nine years in prison after being found guilty of serious sexual offenses involving a young girl. The sentencing took place at Bradford Crown Court on Wednesday, where Nibbs appeared via a video link from HMP Leeds.
He had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and two charges of sexual assault, leading to his conviction.
Details of the case reveal that the victim, whose identity must remain confidential for legal reasons, endured a traumatic ordeal at the hands of Nibbs.
The court was informed that her experience of abuse has left her suffering from nightmares and ongoing psychological distress.
Despite his guilty plea, Nibbs initially denied any wrongdoing immediately after the incidents, accusing the girl of lying to authorities.
This denial was noted by Judge Jonathan Gibson during the sentencing hearing.
In the pre-sentence report, Nibbs continued to maintain his innocence, despite having pleaded guilty earlier in the proceedings.
His defense lawyer, Brooke Morrison, highlighted that Nibbs has no prior convictions and described the sentence he faced as an extremely daunting prospect.
She also revealed that Nibbs suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, which has worsened during his time in prison.
Morrison further explained that Nibbs is subjected to daily abuse from other inmates because of the allegations against him, and he fears for his safety and his life.
She added, “Since his arrest for these offences, he has lost everything.” The court heard that Nibbs’s actions have had a devastating impact on his life and reputation.
Judge Gibson emphasized the gravity of the crimes committed, noting that the evidence against Nibbs was compelling.
He stated that Nibbs was solely responsible for the severe consequences of his actions.
The judge explained that if the case had gone to trial, Nibbs could have faced a sentence of up to 12 years.
However, given his guilty pleas, he was entitled to a reduction of 25 percent in his sentence.
Consequently, Nibbs will serve two-thirds of his nine-year term in prison.
In addition to his incarceration, Judge Gibson imposed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, which will restrict Nibbs’s contact with females under the age of 18 in the future.
Furthermore, he is required to register as a sex offender with the police for the rest of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions related to his offending behavior.
