ASHLEY GROVES FROM TELFORD JAILED FOR VIOLENT JEALOUS RAMPAGE IN TELFORD
In a serious case that has shocked the community of Telford, Ashley Groves, a 30-year-old man from Turreff Drive in Donnington, was sentenced to a total of 20 months in prison following a brutal assault driven by jealousy. The incident took place on October 20 of the previous year, and Groves’s actions resulted in significant injuries to a woman, prompting a court appearance at Shrewsbury Justice Centre.
During the hearing, Groves pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, sexual assault, and theft.
In addition to his prison sentence, the court imposed a 10-year restraining order to prevent any contact with the victim, underscoring the severity of the case and the need for protection.
Prosecutor Mr.
Tariq Shakoor outlined the background of the case, revealing that Groves, who had served eight years in the Army, has a troubling history of previous convictions related to harassment, stalking, and battery.
The attack was reportedly fueled by intense feelings of jealousy, anger, and suspicion, which culminated in a violent assault on the woman.
The victim sustained injuries to her arms, neck, and breast, highlighting the brutality of the attack.
Defense lawyer Mr.
John Williams provided context for Groves’s behavior, explaining that his client suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, a condition linked to his military service.
Williams also pointed out a pattern of offending that is often associated with alcohol abuse, suggesting that these factors contributed to the incident.
Judge Anthony Lowe addressed Groves directly during sentencing, emphasizing the dangerous nature of his actions.
The judge remarked, “This offence has all the hallmarks of somebody who is trying to control somebody else.
You have previous convictions for violence, harassment, and breaching restraining orders.
You have no control of what happens in these circumstances.” Groves was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment for both the assault and sexual assault charges, with these sentences to run concurrently.
An additional two-month sentence for theft was also imposed, to be served alongside the other sentences.
The court ordered that Groves serve half of his sentence in custody, with the remainder to be served on license following his release, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes and the need for ongoing supervision.
