NORTHAMPTON RAPIST ANTHONY CAREY SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS FOR KIDNAPPING AND ASSAULT
A woman who was subjected to a terrifying kidnap and brutal sexual assault faced her attacker in court as he was sentenced to 14 years and four months in prison.Anthony Carey, aged 29, was convicted at Northampton Crown Court for a horrific attack on a woman last year, where he abducted her from a road in Daventry before raping her on a secluded farm track.
Carey’s victim was praised for her bravery for reporting the crime and for attending court to see him sentenced.
According to court records, in November 2018, the victim was walking in Daventry when Carey, disguised in a black mask and driving a grey Nissan Leaf, pulled up beside her and forcibly took her into the vehicle.
He drove her to a remote farm track, beat her severely until she lost consciousness, then subjected her to a brutal sexual assault after she regained awareness.
The attack lasted up to two and a half hours.
Her Honour Judge Rebecca Crane commented that the victim thought Carey was going to kill her, condemning his lack of remorse and the brutality of the incident.
The victim has since suffered significant emotional trauma, including panic attacks and flashbacks.
Detective Sergeant Julie Gallagher from the Sexual Violence Team highlighted the courage of the victim in facing her attacker in court and commended the investigative work that led to a guilty plea, which avoided the victim having to give evidence.
Carey pleaded guilty to his crimes in May 2019 and was subsequently sentenced to 14 years and four months in jail.
The case underscores Northamptonshire Police’s commitment to prosecuting sexual offenders.
