ANTHONY BAYLISS FROM STAFFORD CONVICTED OF SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST TWO GIRLS IN BIRMINGHAM OVER 20 YEARS AGO
Anthony Bayliss, a 77-year-old man from Stafford, has been found guilty of serious sexual offences committed against two young girls more than two decades ago. The victims, who were only 14 and 15 years old at the time, were both residing within the care system when the abuse took place.During the period when the offences occurred, Bayliss was known to frequent escort services regularly. He was often seen driving around Birmingham in his luxury Rolls Royce, portraying himself as a successful television producer. His lifestyle and claims of success were part of his attempt to project a certain image, but behind this facade, he engaged in criminal activities that would eventually catch up with him.
The second victim, who was just 14 years old at the time, met Bayliss under circumstances that would lead to her being subjected to sexual assault. Over the course of their interactions, Bayliss raped her on two separate occasions at his residence. These heinous acts took place in Birmingham, a city where he often traveled and where the crimes were eventually uncovered.
Following a thorough investigation by West Midlands Police, the case was taken up by the Organised Child Sexual Abuse Unit of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). The evidence collected against Bayliss was substantial and compelling, leading to a prosecution that aimed to bring justice for the victims.
When the case was brought before the court, the jury carefully examined the extensive evidence presented by the prosecution. After deliberation, they found Bayliss guilty of the charges, marking a significant victory for justice and the protection of vulnerable children.
This case highlights the importance of diligent police work and the role of the CPS in tackling serious sexual offences, especially those involving young victims who were in the care system. It also serves as a reminder of the ongoing need to safeguard children from predators, regardless of their age or the apparent success of the offender’s outward persona.
