DONNA SWIFT'S HORRIFIC CRUELTY IN STAFFORD: DOG BOBBY NEAR DEATH FROM STARVATION
Donna Lorraine Swift, born on September 14, 1972, and formerly residing on Sash Street before moving to Tennyson Road in Stafford with the postcode ST17 9ST, was involved in a heartbreaking case of animal neglect that drew significant attention from local authorities and animal welfare organizations.Swift was responsible for the care of a black cross-breed dog named Bobby, a pet she had owned since she was a puppy nine years prior. However, her treatment of Bobby was nothing short of neglectful, leading to the dog being severely undernourished to the point of near death.
Animal welfare inspectors from the RSPCA visited Swift’s residence after receiving reports of concern. Upon inspection, they found Bobby in a dire state. The dog’s ribs were clearly visible through her fur, a stark indicator of extreme malnutrition. Photographs taken at the scene captured the heartbreaking image of a dog so emaciated that her bones were prominent, and she was suffering from a severe skin condition.
Swift claimed that she could not afford veterinary care for Bobby and insisted that she did not need to take the dog to a vet because she believed Bobby had never been ill. Despite her assertions, the inspectors’ assessment was grim. They rated Bobby’s overall health at a mere 0.5 out of 10, a score that reflected her critical condition.
Following the inspection, Bobby was referred to a veterinarian, who confirmed that the dog was on the brink of death if not rescued promptly. Recognizing the severity of the situation, the RSPCA took custody of Bobby, and within a few weeks of receiving care, the dog showed significant signs of recovery. Her condition improved markedly, demonstrating the impact of proper treatment and nutrition.
During the court proceedings, Donna Swift admitted to two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, acknowledging her role in the neglect. The case highlighted the importance of animal welfare laws and the responsibilities of pet owners to provide adequate care.
As part of her sentencing, Swift was ordered to complete 100 hours of community service and contribute £750 towards the costs incurred by the authorities. Additionally, she was banned from owning any animals for a period of five years, a ban that expired in October 2016. The case was reported by the Express & Star, although the original article has since been removed.
