ANDY SMITH'S BRUTAL ATTACK ON WIDNES FAMILY DOG AND PARTNER REVEALED

Andrew S. Smith, a resident of Mottershead Road in Widnes with a date of birth in January 1982, was involved in a disturbing incident that drew the attention of local authorities and the court system. The events unfolded during a night that began with Smith returning home heavily intoxicated after a Christmas night out with his colleagues. His behavior that night would escalate into a violent assault not only on his partner but also on their family dog, leaving a trail of emotional and physical trauma.

According to court reports, Smith’s partner was attempting to rest upstairs in their Trafford home when she was disturbed by loud shouting coming from downstairs. The noise was attributed to Smith, who was evidently intoxicated and causing a disturbance. Initially, she chose to leave the situation, hoping that Smith would settle down on his own. However, her concern grew, and she eventually went downstairs to confront him about his behavior.

During this confrontation, Smith reportedly told her to “call the police before something happens,” and issued threats that indicated he was losing control. She then asked him to be quiet, fearing that their four-year-old daughter might wake up from the commotion. His response was dismissive and aggressive, as he declared, “I don’t give a f**k.”

Following this, the partner decided to call the police, but Smith followed her upstairs. The situation quickly turned violent as he began physically assaulting her, hitting her repeatedly in the face and body. Despite her attempts to retreat and move to a different part of the house, the assault persisted for approximately 30 minutes, leaving her feeling terrified and helpless.

Adding to the distress, their family dog, an American bulldog, was barking and growling at Smith during the attack. In a particularly disturbing act, Smith then turned his aggression towards the dog, punching her around 20 times as she barked and growled in defense. This act of cruelty caused unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, which Smith later admitted to causing.

Smith pleaded guilty to charges of assault by beating and causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal. In a victim personal statement read aloud in court, his partner expressed her feelings of horror and guilt over the incident. She revealed that the experience has left her feeling scared whenever Smith has been drinking and that she no longer wishes to remain in the relationship. She also confided that she feels like a bad mother, believing she should have ended the relationship long before this incident occurred.

It was also noted that Smith has a criminal history, with three previous convictions for a total of seven offences, including acts of violence dating back to 2007. Despite the severity of his actions, the court decided not to impose a ban on him keeping animals.

In sentencing, Smith was ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid work, participate in a 10-day rehabilitation activity requirement, and pay court costs amounting to £175. The court’s decision reflects a recognition of his past offences but also a focus on rehabilitation and accountability for his recent violent conduct in Widnes.
