December 2007 PAEDOPHILE JAILED A MAN convicted of possessing indecent photographs of children was hounded out of his Widnes home, a court was told. Unemployed Eric Carmon, 57, of Christie Street, received threats and abusive letters after he was convicted in October, Widnes magistrates’ court heard. He was sentenced this week to three months in prison and placed on the national paedophile register under the Sex Offenders Act 1997. Beverley Hackett, defending, appealed for sympathy for Carmon. She said: “My client has been subjected to a lot of threats and and nasty and abusive letters since he last appeared in court. “He has had to go and live elsewhere and just returns to collect his mail. He has suffered.” But stipendiary magistrate Phillip Dodd told Carmon a prison sentence was the only fit punishment. He said: “You have been convicted of possessing hundreds of indecent images of children on a computer base. They are indicative of an unhealthy interest. “The court cannot justify any sentence other than custody because of the grave public concern over this matter.”
