ANDREW WILSON OF POCKLINGTON JAILED FOR MULTIPLE SEX OFFENCES IN HULL

In February 2016, Andrew Wilson, a 33-year-old man from Pocklington, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for heinous sexual offences involving a vulnerable underage girl. The court was told that Wilson had inflicted emotional trauma and stolen her innocence over 14 years ago. The girl described Wilson as pushy and having a strange appearance, recalling that he had attacked her while intoxicated when he was 18, threatening her with a Stanley knife and claiming she wouldn’t be believed.

At Hull Crown Court, Judge Kate Buckingham stated, “I place this offence as starting point of 13 years with a range of 8-13 years. She was a vulnerable young girl. Although this was committed 15 years ago, you have not been offence-free. The recent offences demonstrate you have a sexual interest in young girls.” She also sentenced Wilson to an additional three years for two offences involving inciting a girl into a sex act, where Wilson pretended to be a 14-year-old schoolboy.

The victim described the assault: “He pulled me back, kissed me, and touched me. I said: ‘Stop it, I am only 10.’ I felt scared and started to shout for my mum. He put his hand over my mouth. I started shaking. He did not say anything.” Wilson was caught after the girl’s mother intervened, and Wilson later claimed he was “just having a bit of fun.” Initially, Wilson received a six-month sentence after the girl initially refused to disclose the full extent of the indecency, but in 2007, she confided in her boyfriend about being raped.

Following his release, Wilson continued his harmful behavior by creating a false online identity as a 14-year-old boy, seeking to exploit underage girls. Hannah Duncan, an offender supervisor from Humberside, documented on multiple occasions that Wilson admitted to having sex with a girl in 2001, stating, “I recorded he had sex with the girl. He said he had sex. He definitely used the expression.” Wilson denied the recording, claiming the probation officer misheard him.

In March 2014, the victim was again visited by authorities and told officers, “I thought he had been charged with rape because he raped me,” prompting her to want to make a formal complaint.

Wilson’s trial at Hull Crown Court lasted four days from January 4th to 7th, during which he chose not to testify. A jury deliberated for less than two hours before convicting him of a single count of rape. During sentencing, Crown barrister John Thackray delivered a victim impact statement, revealing the lasting effects on the girl: “She says over the year it has affected her. She locks the house doors and does not feel safe in the house. She says she is worried when strangers come to the door. She does not like to take a bath unless her husband is in the house. She struggles to cope, so she needs to be busy. She said her mind wanders back to what happened. She is now very protective of her own child because of what happened to her. She said she tried not to let it affect her relationship with her understanding husband. She added that the case's reactivation has made her very anxious.”

Wilson was consequently sentenced to 12 years imprisonment, with an extended one-year licence period. He was also ordered to adhere to an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order and to remain on the National Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

Earlier, in July 2014, Wilson had been jailed for over three years after exploiting an underage girl. He had sent her an indecent picture of himself via Blackberry Messenger, stored 500 girl’s PIN numbers—including some of the victim’s friends—on his phone, and coerced her into sending explicit images and videos. He told her he wanted sex. At that time, Wilson was under probation supervision.

Wilson, of Chestnut Drive, Holme-on-Spalding-Moor, previously created a fake profile of a 14-year-old boy on Blackberry, tricking girls into engaging with him on their phones. Wilson, who had a prior conviction for indecent assault on a young girl at age 18, pleaded guilty to two charges of inciting a girl under 13 to perform sexual acts. His criminal record also includes an incident in September 1990 when, at age 18, he was caught kissing and indecently assaulting a primary school-aged girl in Goole, resulting in a six-month detention in a young offenders institution. However, he breached his license conditions and was returned to custody for inappropriate contact with young girls.
