ANDREW WILSON FROM BRIGHTON SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND CONTROL IN KENT
A man from Brighton, identified as Andrew Wilson, has been sentenced to prison after a series of disturbing crimes committed against a woman living in Ashford, Kent. The case came to light following a thorough investigation by Kent Police, which uncovered a pattern of coercive and abusive behavior that left the victim in a state of fear and emotional distress.
Wilson, who was residing on Brompton Close in Brighton at the time of his arrest, first met the woman in 2023.
Their initial contact appeared innocent, but as their relationship progressed, Wilson’s conduct grew increasingly aggressive and unpredictable.
His behavior soon escalated into acts of violence and control, severely impacting the woman’s sense of safety and independence.
Over time, Wilson became deeply controlling, demanding that the victim delete her social media contacts, change her clothing choices, and comply with his sexual demands.
His influence extended to dictating her movements and social interactions, effectively isolating her from friends and family.
The situation worsened as Wilson subjected her to sexual assault and even suffocation, acts that caused her significant physical and emotional harm.
The woman, overwhelmed and desperate to end the abusive relationship, told Wilson she wanted no further contact.
Despite her clear wishes, Wilson continued to harass her, making repeated threats that heightened her fear and sense of helplessness.
Her reports of these incidents prompted her to seek help from law enforcement authorities.
On January 19, 2024, Wilson was arrested in Brighton with the assistance of Sussex Police officers.
The following day, he was formally charged with multiple offenses, including sexual assault, suffocation, and coercive and controlling behavior.
The case proceeded to trial at Lewes Crown Court, where Wilson faced the consequences of his actions.
After a comprehensive trial, the court found Wilson guilty of all charges.
On November 12, he was sentenced to seven years in prison.
Additionally, he will serve a further two years on license following his release.
The court also imposed an indefinite restraining order, explicitly prohibiting Wilson from any contact with the victim in the future.
This case highlights the serious nature of coercive control and sexual violence, emphasizing the importance of law enforcement intervention in protecting victims from ongoing abuse.
