ANDREW WEBB FROM AYR FOUND GUILTY OF SEXUAL ACTIVITY WITH TEENAGER IN KINCAIDSTON

In a case that has shocked the local community of Ayr, Andrew Webb, a man residing in the Kincaidston area, has been convicted of engaging in inappropriate sexual activity with a teenage boy. Webb, who had previously denied any wrongdoing, faced serious charges related to incidents that took place at his home in Kincaidston during the early days of June 2022.

Webb was accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy while they were both present in Webb’s back garden, specifically in his hot tub. The defendant entered a plea of not guilty to the charge of sexual assault, asserting that the encounter was consensual. However, during the trial held at Ayr Sheriff Court, the evidence presented painted a different picture.

The court heard that Webb performed a sexual act on the young victim, who repeatedly told Webb to stop during the incident. The victim, in his testimony, described feeling uncomfortable and pressured, and he immediately reported Webb’s inappropriate behavior to his mother following the event. Webb’s legal team attempted to argue that the act was consensual, lodging a special defence of consent to the sexual assault charge.

Despite Webb’s claims, the jury deliberated and reached a verdict. They returned a majority 'not guilty' verdict on the charge of sexual assault, but they unanimously convicted Webb of a lesser charge—sexual activity with an older child, specifically a person aged between 13 and 16. The trial revealed that Webb’s actions were considered inappropriate and unlawful under the law, even if the sexual assault charge was not upheld.

The jury retired to consider their verdict at 12:37 pm on Thursday and shortly after 2 pm, they announced their decision. The foreman informed Sheriff Mhairi MacTaggart that Webb was found guilty of the lesser charge, which carries serious legal implications. Webb’s sentencing has been deferred to allow for the preparation of background reports, and he is expected to return to court at a later date to learn his fate. Bail conditions remain in place, and Webb will not be detained until the sentencing hearing.
