BRADFORD MAN ANDREW WALLIS SPARED JAIL AFTER CHILD PORNOGRAPHY DISCOVERY AT LEEDS-BRADFORD AIRPORT

In a disturbing case that unfolded at Leeds-Bradford Airport, Andrew Wallis, a 31-year-old resident of Bradford, was found to be in possession of an extensive and highly disturbing collection of illegal pornography.

The authorities seized over 7,000 illicit images and video clips from his belongings, which he had smuggled into the UK after returning from working abroad in the Cayman Islands.

Wallis’s illicit collection was discovered when customs officers conducted a routine check on his belongings at a warehouse.

His possessions, which included a computer hard drive and a selection of 349 CD-ROMs, were scrutinized after his arrival in the UK on August 4, 2004.

His crates had been checked by chance, and it was during this inspection that the authorities uncovered the disturbing material.

When questioned, Wallis admitted to possessing pornography that included images of children and animals engaged in sexual acts.

Prosecutor Laura Addy detailed the extent of the illegal content, revealing that the material involved bestiality with animals such as dogs, snakes, horses, donkeys, and goats.

The collection contained a total of 7,037 prohibited images, among which 378 were classified as child pornography.

Of these, 96 images were at level four severity, and one was at the most serious level five.

Additionally, there were 607 images depicting bestiality and 19 involving adult rape.

The collection also included images of bondage and torture.

It was emphasized during the court proceedings that Wallis was considered to be of good character, and there was no evidence to suggest that he had distributed any of the illicit material.

The case was brought before Leeds Crown Court, where the judge, Alistair McCallum, was shown some of the images.

The judge recounted that he was unable to continue viewing after witnessing a woman being tortured, highlighting the disturbing nature of the material.

In mitigation, Stephen Wood argued that Wallis had not reoffended in the two years since the initial discovery and that he had been unemployed after resigning from his job following the incident.

A psychiatrist who assessed Wallis clarified that he was not a paedophile but an addict, and his collection of pornography was driven by compulsive behavior rather than predatory intent.

Judge McCallum acknowledged the severity of the offense but also recognized the importance of treatment.

He stated that the maximum sentence he could impose was eight months in prison, with the possibility of release after four months.

However, the judge emphasized that Wallis required help for his addiction and sentenced him to a three-year community rehabilitation order.

Additionally, Wallis was ordered to attend the Sex Offenders’ Treatment Programme, sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for five years, and pay £300 towards court costs.

This case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the possession and distribution of illegal and exploitative material, and highlights the importance of treatment and rehabilitation for offenders involved in such crimes.
