ANDREW TELFORD OF TELFORD SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS FOR ABUSE IN TELFORD AND SHREWSBURY
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community, Andrew Telford, a 61-year-old resident of Telford, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against a young girl. The crimes, which spanned over a significant period, involved a relentless campaign of abuse that began when the victim was only eight years old.
During the proceedings at Shrewsbury Crown Court, it was revealed that the abuse had occurred 'thousands of times,' illustrating the extent and severity of Telford's actions.
The victim, whose identity remains protected, delivered a heartfelt and powerful impact statement, describing how the abuse had 'stolen her childhood.' Judge Peter Barrie described her statement as 'eloquent and insightful,' acknowledging the profound emotional toll inflicted by Telford’s actions.
The court was informed that the victim had contemplated silence for a long time, planning not to disclose the abuse until Telford had passed away.
However, a trusted friend encouraged her to break her silence and report the crimes to the authorities, which ultimately led to Telford’s arrest.
On June 26 of the previous year, law enforcement officers executed a search of Telford’s residence in Stanwyck, Sutton Hill, Telford.
The search uncovered an 'extensive' diary detailing the abuse he had committed, along with other incriminating evidence.
Among the items seized were a camcorder, a list of outfits Telford had used, and a script for an explicit film that prosecutors indicated Telford was 'clearly fantasising about making.' These discoveries painted a disturbing picture of Telford’s predatory behavior and his detailed planning of further abuse.
In her statement, the victim expressed her feelings of worthlessness and the lasting impact of the trauma.
She said, 'I feel I’m only good for my body and nothing else about me matters.
I feel like I’ve had my childhood stolen from me and I’ve had to grow up more quickly than everyone else.' She also recounted her fear during the abuse, explaining, 'I always felt too scared to try and stop him.
He made out it was all my fault.
I always thought I would get in trouble.' Andrew Telford, of Stanwyck, Sutton Hill, Telford, pleaded guilty to multiple charges of serious sexual offenses against a child.
His conviction and subsequent sentencing serve as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and the need to protect vulnerable individuals from predatory behavior.
