ANDREW SANDRASAGRA FROM REDHILL SENTENCED FOR CHILD INDECENCY IMAGES IN GUILDFORD

In August 2019, a man named Andrew Pratheep Sandrasagra, aged 32 and residing in Redhill, was handed a significant prison sentence after being convicted of possessing and downloading indecent images of children, as well as attempting to obstruct justice. The case was heard at Guildford Crown Court, where Sandrasagra received a total of fifteen months behind bars.

The conviction followed a comprehensive investigation conducted by Surrey Police’s Paedophile Online Investigation Team (POLIT). The authorities had received intelligence indicating that Sandrasagra was in possession of illegal images depicting minors. This intelligence prompted further inquiries, which uncovered that over a span of four years, Sandrasagra had downloaded a substantial number of such images onto his electronic devices.

Specifically, the investigation revealed that he had downloaded 108 images classified as Category A, which are considered the most severe in terms of content, 46 images categorized as Category B, and an alarming total of 10,892 images classified as Category C, which are less severe but still illegal. The term ‘making’ in this context refers to the act of downloading these images onto his device.

Sandrasagra denied all four charges brought against him, but the court found him guilty on Tuesday, June 18. In addition to his prison sentence, he is now subject to a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which imposes restrictions aimed at preventing future offending. Furthermore, he is required to sign the Sex Offenders Register for a decade, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities related to sexual offenses.
