ANDREW LAW FROM BATHGATE CAUGHT WITH ILLEGAL CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN WEST LOTHIAN

In September 2017, authorities in West Lothian uncovered a disturbing case involving Andrew Law, a resident of Bathgate, who was found to possess indecent images of children. The investigation was initiated after Police Scotland’s cyber crime unit traced an IP address linked to Law’s home network, which had been used to access and download illegal photographs depicting child abuse.

Following this digital evidence, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Law’s residence in Bathgate. During the search, detectives seized a laptop computer, which was subsequently examined for illicit content. The forensic analysis revealed that the device contained a collection of indecent photographs of minors, including images classified under Category A, indicating the most severe form of child abuse, such as rape or torture of young children.

Jim Robertson, the prosecutor, confirmed that Law, aged 54, pleaded guilty to possessing these illegal images at his home address between October 16, 2014, and January 5, 2017. The court proceedings took place at Livingston Sheriff Court, where the seriousness of the offense was emphasized.

In response to Law’s guilty plea, Sheriff Douglas Kinloch deferred sentencing, but made it clear that Law would be subject to strict legal conditions moving forward. The sheriff stated that Law would need to comply with reporting requirements and be registered on the sex offenders’ register, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the need for ongoing monitoring to protect the community.
