ANDREW JONES SHROPSHIRE CHILD PORN PERVERT SENTENCED IN TELFORD

In a case that has shocked the community of Telford and the wider Shropshire area, Andrew David Jones, a 48-year-old man from Wellington, was sentenced to 18 months in prison after being found guilty of possessing and distributing indecent images, including videos involving children. The court heard that Jones had engaged in disturbing online behavior, which culminated in him sending explicit material to a 17-year-old girl he met on a social networking site.

According to court records, Jones initially approached the teenager via MSN Messenger while she was at her home in Northern Ireland in April 2009. He requested to be her friend and soon began asking her personal questions about her relationships. As their conversation progressed, Jones appeared on her webcam, which she found unsettling due to his age and manner. Despite her expressing discomfort, Jones continued to pursue the interaction, claiming to have other internet friends who were much younger.

It was during this exchange that Jones sent the girl explicit photographs, initially of young teenagers, and later a highly disturbing video involving a girl as young as five engaged in sexual activity. The teenager was deeply disturbed by the content and immediately contacted the police to report the incident. Her quick action was praised by the court, with Judge Peter Barrie commending her for her bravery in coming forward.

When authorities visited Jones’s residence in Urban Gardens, Wellington, they discovered additional material on his laptop. Among the videos found, only one was classified as a category four image, which involved the young girl in the explicit video. The court was informed that Jones possessed a total of 11 charges, including seven counts of distributing indecent images and four counts of possessing such material.

During the proceedings, Mr. Andrew Barkley, prosecuting, detailed the case and highlighted Jones’s lack of prior convictions for sexual offenses. However, he emphasized that Jones had a troubled past and had been honest with police during their investigation. Jones’s defense lawyer, Mr. Brendan Reedy, argued that his client showed remorse and a desire to change, which the court took into account.

Judge Peter Barrie noted that the starting point for Jones’s sentence would have been three years, but he granted credit for the guilty plea and Jones’s frankness. As part of his sentence, Jones will serve half of the 18 months before being eligible for release on licence. Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes and the court’s commitment to public safety.
