ANDREW JEFFERY, BEDFORD PREDATOR, SENTENCED TO TWO AND A HALF YEARS IN PRISON
A 38-year-old man from Bedford, described as a 'dangerous predator,' attempted to arrange a meeting with someone he believed was a 12-year-old girl for the purpose of sexual exploitation.According to reports, Jeffrey initiated contact through an instant messaging app, where he sent sexually explicit messages and images.
He then tried to persuade the girl to come to his residence in Chillingham Green, Bedford.
Investigators grew increasingly concerned when Jeffrey described how he planned to get her 'high' using drinks and drugs.
Two days later, police executed a warrant at his home in Bedford on January 30, 2019.
During the search, officers seized multiple electronic devices and arrested Jeffrey.
He subsequently pleaded guilty to three counts of arranging or facilitating a child sex offence and one count of attempting sexual communication with a child.
Following his plea, Jeffrey was sentenced to two and a half years in prison.
Emma Shipton, an investigation officer from Bedfordshire Police’s Internet Child Abuse Investigation team, commented: "Jeffrey is a dangerous predator and I’m pleased that he will now spend the next two-and-a-half years in prison.
This case highlights the vital work our officers do in collecting evidence to arrest and charge offenders in the challenging online environment." She emphasized the risks of online offending by stating, "While Jeffrey was speaking to our officers this time, individuals who commit these offences online can often go on to abuse children in the real world.
That’s why thorough investigation and safeguarding are crucial." She also called for increased awareness and education: "It’s important to educate children on how to protect themselves online, including not talking to strangers, avoiding sharing personal information, and maintaining high privacy settings.
We advise parents to speak with their children about online safety and encourage them to report anything that makes them feel uncomfortable online."
