Andrew Green

Cornwall Sexual Abuser

June 2015 Pervert jailed for 14 years for sex assaults on young girl A REFORMED alcoholic has been jailed for 14 years for a series of sexual assaults on an underage girl in the 1990s. The offences Andrew Green carried out on his victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, left her “devastated” and were so serious they would be charged as rape under current law, Truro Crown Court heard on Thursday. The 45-year-old, of Chyvelah Road, Threemilestone, was living at St Newlyn East at the time of the offences in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He went on trial last week accused of a series of charges of indecent assault and indecency with a child in relation to the girl, who is now an adult. Sean Brunton, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said that Green was a heavy drinker at the time. The girl was aged under 13 when Green kissed her sexually and forced her to perform sexual acts on him on a number of occasions, the court heard. Mr Brunton said she reported the matter to the police in 2013 after revealing the events of her childhood to her mother. Green denied six counts of indecent assault and four of indecency with a child. He was found not guilty of two of the indecent assault charges by direction of the judge after the girl gave evidence and the court heard the dates in those charges did not match her account. He was found guilty by the jury of the remaining counts. Jeremy Leaning, for the defence, said Green had no history of similar offending before or after these offences. “He tells me he had conquered his alcoholism and was looking forward to returning to employment,” said Mr Leaning of his client prior to the trial. Judge Simon Carr said Green had started by kissing the girl as it could be easily denied and explained as the misinterpretation of an innocent act. He then moved on to more serious sexual assaults when he was confident she would not tell on him. “The effect on her has been devastating,” said Judge Carr. “Those that suffer abuse of this sort pay the price for the whole of their lives. “It is something that keeps coming back into their memories.” Judge Carr added that Green showed no remorse, sentencing him to a total of 14 years in jail and ordering him to sign the sex offenders’ register for life. He will also be barred from ever working with children.
