PARAMEDIC CONVICTED OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENCES LOSES MEDICAL LICENSE
A paramedic named Andrew Grant has been convicted of possessing child pornography and has been subsequently struck off following his conviction at Birmingham Magistrates Court.
Grant, aged 36, had downloaded over 11,000 images and four videos depicting children as young as three and four years old.
Among these, 65 images and one video were classified as Category A, indicating the most extreme forms of sexual abuse of children.
An additional 65 images and two videos fell under Category B, with over 11,331 images categorized as Category C.
Grant's online activity spanned between five to ten years, during which he used two computers to download the illegal material, although he did not share the images.
He resigned from the West Midlands Ambulance Service after 13 years of service in October 2014, admitting to police that he had been viewing child pornography.
His sentencing in November 2015 included a six-month suspended prison sentence, a two-year supervision order, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and a requirement to undergo a 'Facing Forward' rehabilitation program.
The HCPC panel noted that Grant posed a real risk to the public and breached the trust placed in paramedics.
Despite showing remorse and cooperating with authorities, the panel emphasized the high harm caused by his actions and concluded that he had been complicit in child sexual abuse through his extensive downloading activities.
Consequently, the panel decided to strike him off the HCPC register effective from July 22, 2016, including an interim suspension during the appeal period.
Grant’s last known address was Chester Road, Erdington.
He was not present or represented at the hearing.
