BRADFORD CHILD RAPIST ANDREW BRISTOW SENTENCED TO EXTENDED PRISON TERM IN CALDERDALE CASE
Andrew Bristow, a convicted child sex offender from Bradford, has been handed a significantly extended prison sentence after admitting to further heinous sexual offenses involving a vulnerable young girl.Bristow, aged 55, was already serving a 10-year sentence for previous crimes but will now face a longer period behind bars, with his release date pushed back until at least 2035.
The case was heard at Bradford Crown Court, where it was revealed that Bristow had lured the young girl into his flat in Calderdale over a span of seven weeks.
During this period, the girl was subjected to a series of disturbing acts, including being stripped, photographed, and sexually assaulted by Bristow and another man, Michael Peters.
The court heard that Bristow’s actions were particularly predatory and calculated, aimed at exploiting the girl’s vulnerability.
Prosecutor Joel Wootton detailed the horrifying nature of the abuse, stating that the girl’s mouth was covered “to stop her from screaming,” indicating an attempt to silence her during the assaults.
The girl was also assaulted in a nearby bungalow owned by Peters, who was 71 at the time of his own sentencing.
After the abuse, the perpetrators dressed her, gave her a sweet, and warned her not to tell her parents, further emphasizing their manipulative tactics.
The crimes only came to light more than five years later, after Bristow and Peters, described as “partners in paedophilic abuse,” were convicted and jailed for an earlier rape involving a different young girl.
Peters has since died, but Bristow’s case continued to unfold, revealing the extent of his offending.
Mr.
Wootton explained that the victim did not initially disclose what had happened, fearing repercussions and feeling scared, which is a common reaction among victims of such abuse.
The court was also informed that Bristow had been assessed by the probation service as posing “a high and imminent risk to children,” highlighting the danger he still represented.
During mitigation, Michael Collins, representing Bristow, expressed remorse and regret, stating that Bristow was “sorry for what he had done” and struggled to recount his offenses due to shame and embarrassment.
Collins also noted that Bristow had engaged fully with rehabilitation efforts in prison, including attending a sex offenders’ course.
However, the judge, Mr.
Recorder David Kelly, was clear in his condemnation.
He stated, “Together with the now deceased Peters, you groomed and abused your young victim by sexually touching her and inciting her to engage in sexual activity with you both.
The offending took place over a seven-week period and was predatory in nature.
It was committed for your own sexual gratification and without the slightest concern for the long-term trauma this was bound to have caused her.
You recorded your sexual activity, and shared it with Peters, on your mobile phone.” Considering Bristow’s current sentence of ten years and eight months, which would have allowed for conditional release on May 17, 2026, the judge imposed an extended custodial sentence of 11 years.
This means Bristow will remain in prison or on license until at least May 6, 2035, and will not be eligible for release until he has served two-thirds of that period.
After release, he will be subject to license conditions for the remainder of his custodial period plus an additional five-year extension.
It was also noted that Bristow is already subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, underscoring the ongoing restrictions and monitoring aimed at protecting the public from further harm.
