March 2009 “Depraved” sex offender assaulted ten-year-old A SEX offender “addicted to young boys” set up a secret den where he abused a child. Andrew Bottomley filled the one-bedroom house with sweets, children’s toiletries, games consoles and games. He was supposed to be living with his father in Beeston Rylands as part of a police monitoring order. Nottingham Crown Court heard he had a stock of videos and images of children. One clip was at level five, the most serious, and showed sadomasochism. Bottomley touched a ten-year-old boy sexually and took photographs of him with a mobile phone in September last year. The 29-year-old pleaded guilty to two charges of indecent assault, one of sexual activity with the boy, 16 charges of possessing indecent images, one of breaching the prevention order and failing to notify police of his address, and two of taking indecent photographs. Judge Jonathan Teare gave him an indefinite sentence for public protection. He must serve at least three years before he can apply for parole. Bottomley, of High Road, Chilwell, will be on the sex offenders’ register for life. The judge told him: “You have a depraved fascination in young boys and the public need protection from you.” Alwyn Jones, defending, said Bottomley accepted he was addicted to young boys, but had a desire to change.
