MOTHER PLEADS GUILTY TO KILLING SEVEN-MONTH-OLD BABY
The mother of a seven-month-old girl has admitted killing her baby daughter.Zoe Black was brought to hospital from a house on the Bestwood Park estate in Nottingham on 1 September last year but was declared dead on arrival.
Amy Elizabeth Black, aged 40, of Ketton Close, pleaded guilty to infanticide when her mental state was disturbed.
Nottingham Crown Court heard all medical evidence indicated that Black drowned her daughter.
The case has been adjourned until April.
The court was told Black traveled to London the day before Zoe died, went into Ealing police station and stated she needed to return to Nottingham.
Police authorities took her to a service station on the M1, where officers from Nottinghamshire collected her.
The police also contacted social services for an emergency visit to Black, but were told no team was available.
CCTV footage showed Black walking back and forth to her garden, cradling Zoe with one arm, then dropping Zoe over a fence onto land behind her house.
Neighbours later found Black wandering with self-inflicted knife wounds, and Zoe's body was recovered.
The court noted Black had not fully recovered mentally following childbirth.
The case was further adjourned for psychiatric evaluations, and Black was remanded into custody.
A serious case review is underway to investigate the circumstances surrounding Zoe's death, with statements from authorities indicating ongoing investigations and awaiting further inquests.
