BRADFORD MAN AMIR MAJID SENTENCED FOR GROOMING AND SEXUAL OFFENCES INVOLVING TEENAGE GIRL
In April 2006, a disturbing case unfolded in Bradford involving Amir Majid, a 38-year-old man who was convicted of grooming a young girl for sexual activity and engaging in inappropriate conduct with her.Majid, who was married at the time, was sentenced to serve three years in prison after a court found him guilty of multiple serious offences.
The victim, a girl who was only 13 years old when their relationship began, was befriended by Majid during a period when she was still in early adolescence.
Over time, Majid developed a troubling relationship with her, which included visits to his residence in Bradford.
During these visits, he provided alcohol to the girl and her friend, offering them alcopops, which contributed to her intoxication.
Witnesses and prosecutors described how, on one occasion in 2004, the girl consumed so much alcohol at Majid’s home that she was unable to walk properly and was vomiting, highlighting the reckless and harmful environment he created.
Prosecutor Andrew Semple detailed how Majid, who initially claimed to be only 25 years old and inquired about the girl’s relationship status, began engaging in sexual activity with her.
The court heard that Majid started having unprotected sex with the girl whenever they met, a pattern that continued over a period spanning from June 2004 to March of the following year.
The girl, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, later told police that she did not object or ask him to stop during their encounters.
In a victim-impact statement read aloud in Bradford Crown Court, she described her involvement with Majid as “a relationship” and admitted she was “under his spell,” indicating the manipulative and coercive nature of their interactions.
Majid also admitted to another offence involving a pornographic video, which he caused a child to watch.
This act further demonstrated his predatory behavior and disregard for the well-being of minors.
Following his conviction, it was mandated that Majid register as a sex offender for life, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his future activities.
Judge Geoffrey Kamil imposed additional restrictions and penalties.
He extended Majid’s license supervision period by two years and issued a sexual offences prevention order.
This order prohibits Majid from having minors under the age of 16 in his vehicle or engaging in unsupervised contact with children other than his own.
Furthermore, he is disqualified from seeking employment that could provide him with unsupervised access to children.
Majid’s failure to appear at Bradford Crown Court for his sentencing hearing on the scheduled Monday resulted in his arrest on a warrant.
The judge sentenced him to an extra two months behind bars for this breach of court procedures.
In his sentencing remarks, Judge Kamil highlighted several aggravating factors, including the significant age difference between Majid and the victim, and the fact that no condoms were used during their sexual encounters.
The judge emphasized the risks involved, such as the potential for pregnancy and the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases, although fortunately, no such health issues materialized.
Judge Kamil also pointed out the grooming aspect of Majid’s conduct, noting that he befriended the girl and her friends over an extended period, which facilitated his sexual exploitation of her.
The case underscores the serious nature of grooming and sexual abuse involving minors, and the court’s efforts to impose strict penalties to protect vulnerable young people in Bradford and beyond.
