ALUN HAYNES FROM DONCASTER SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING POLICE DECOYS IN SHEFFIELD

In a serious case brought before Sheffield Crown Court, Alun Haynes, a 41-year-old resident of Athelstone Road in Doncaster, was convicted and sentenced for engaging in inappropriate and illegal online communications with individuals he believed to be underage boys.

The court proceedings, held on May 12, revealed the disturbing details of Haynes's actions, which involved deliberate attempts to initiate sexual conversations with what he thought were young boys, but who were actually police decoys tasked with monitoring such predatory behavior.

Judge Sarah Wright addressed the court, emphasizing the gravity of the offenses.

She stated, “This was very serious offending involving ostensibly two young boys and the second offending was while you were under investigation.

You have encouraged what you thought were young boys to engage in sexual activity and therefore the offences are so serious only immediate custody is appropriate.” Her remarks underscored the dangerous nature of Haynes's conduct and the need for strict judicial response.

The prosecution, led by Nicola Quinney, outlined the sequence of events that led to Haynes's arrest.

According to Quinney, Haynes first initiated contact with a decoy named Jack in January 2019 through online dating platforms.

The conversations quickly turned sexual, with Haynes sending explicit images of his private parts and discussing oral sex.

The decoy, claiming to be 14 years old, was subjected to persistent sexual propositions, with Haynes even promising to teach the decoy how to perform sexual acts.

In February of that year, Haynes encouraged the decoy to engage in sexual activity, further demonstrating his intent.

Haynes's arrest followed a police raid on his residence in March 2019, which uncovered evidence of his online predatory behavior.

The court also heard that between January and February 2020, Haynes established contact with another decoy, who called himself Jacob and claimed to be only 12 years old.

During this communication, Haynes sent a photograph of his private parts, discussed sexual acts and oral sex, and asked the decoy to send a picture of himself, further illustrating his continued attempts to exploit minors.

Haynes, who has a prior criminal record, pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to his online conduct.

Specifically, he admitted to attempting to engage a boy in sexual activity, attempting to engage a boy in sexual communication, and attempting to persuade a boy to watch a sexual act in relation to the first decoy.

Regarding the second decoy, he pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication and to persuade the decoy to watch a sexual act.

In sentencing, Judge Wright imposed a custodial term of three years, reflecting the seriousness of the offenses.

Additionally, she imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years, aimed at preventing any future offending and protecting the community from potential harm caused by Haynes’s actions.

The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat online sexual exploitation and the importance of strict judicial measures to deter such behavior.
