ALISTER REID FROM MIDDLESBROUGH ESCAPES JAIL AFTER SENDING CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN TEESSIDE
In a case that has shocked the local community of Middlesbrough and the wider Teesside area, Alister Reid, a 53-year-old man residing on Broughton Avenue in the Easterside neighborhood, narrowly avoided immediate imprisonment after admitting to serious charges involving indecent images of children.Reid appeared at Teesside Crown Court where the details of his offenses were laid bare.
The court was informed that Reid had engaged in the distribution of an indecent video containing images of a child, which he sent to an unsuspecting woman via WhatsApp.
The recipient was reportedly left in a state of shock upon receiving the explicit material, highlighting the disturbing nature of the case.
In addition to the distribution of indecent images, Reid admitted to making an indecent image himself, possessing a prohibited image, and possessing extreme pornography.
These allegations stem from an investigation that began in June of the previous year, when police officers visited Reid’s residence following reports that an indecent image had been downloaded from the internet.
During the search, authorities seized multiple electronic devices, including mobile phones and a laptop, which were examined for evidence.
Prosecutor Emma Atkinson revealed that the investigation uncovered images of children aged between six and nine years old, as well as another image depicting a child aged between 13 and 15 years old.
A detective involved in the case described one of the images as among the worst he had ever encountered.
The court heard that the communication between Reid and the female involved in the case was conducted via WhatsApp, during which he sent the disturbing video containing the indecent images of children.
The severity of the material and the nature of the offenses prompted the court to consider appropriate sentencing measures.
Judge Smith ultimately sentenced Reid to eight months in prison, but this sentence was suspended for a period of 12 months.
Additionally, Reid was ordered to serve 25 days of a Remand and Rehabilitation (RAR) program and to complete a sexual offender treatment course.
To further protect the public, Reid was also issued a sexual harm prevention order that will remain in effect for five years, restricting his activities and monitoring his behavior to prevent future offenses.
