ALFIE WOODS, FORMER SOLDIER, FAILS TO COMPLY WITH SEX OFFENDER ORDER IN BLACKPOOL
In July 2017, Alfie Woods, a 32-year-old ex-soldier formerly residing on Richmond Road, North Shore, now without a fixed address, was found to have violated a condition of his Sex Offenders Registration Order.Woods, who previously received a conviction for possessing indecent images of children and was placed on the Sex Offender Register for seven years, along with an indefinite Sex Offences Prevention Order, pleaded guilty to failing to notify police of his change of address.
He was sentenced by District Judge John Maxwell at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court to a six-week jail term, suspended for 15 months.
Additionally, he was placed on a 12-month community order with up to 20 days of supervised rehabilitation through the probation service.
He was also ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £115 victims’ surcharge.
Prosecutor Pam Smith explained that police investigations showed that on July 9, Woods moved from Doncaster to Blackpool with his pregnant partner and a young child.
However, he did not report this address change to authorities, which was a breach of his legal obligations—the second such breach.
At the time, Woods was staying at a friend’s house in Blackpool with his pregnant girlfriend and toddler; the friend was unaware of Woods’ sexual conviction.
Steven Townley, representing Woods, explained that his client had been working for travellers in Doncaster until they ceased paying him.
Woods decided to stop working for them, but they demanded he continue roofing work and began making threats against him and his partner.
Fearing for their safety, Woods and his family left for Blackpool, without informing police of their move, believing they would not approve of his new address.
