AYR MAN ALEXANDER MACKENZIE CAUGHT WITH SICK ANIMAL AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY MATERIAL

In December 2018, a disturbing case emerged involving Alexander MacKenzie, a 46-year-old resident of Galloway Avenue in Ayr, who was found in possession of a horrifying collection of illegal images. Authorities uncovered material that included extreme bestiality photographs alongside indecent images of children, some believed to be as young as one year old.

Police executed a search at MacKenzie's residence on September 21 of the previous year. During the operation, officers discovered a USB stick and an HP computer terminal containing approximately 320 illicit images and videos. The investigation revealed that MacKenzie had stored a disturbing array of content, including explicit material involving animals and young children.

The police raid took place at the home he shares with his elderly mother. During questioning, his mother stated that MacKenzie was at work at the time and claimed that he primarily used the computer for online banking. She also mentioned that her son used the computer daily for browsing the internet, engaging with social media platforms like Facebook, and reportedly for activities related to animals.

Further examination of the seized devices uncovered 18 videos and over 200 images. Among these was a particularly disturbing video depicting two women and a black dog engaged in sexual acts. The collection also included images of naked children, with the youngest being between one and three years old.

MacKenzie, who has a prior conviction, appeared before Ayr Sheriff Court for sentencing. The court heard that he had been in possession of these illegal materials between June 1, 2015, and September 20, 2017. He pleaded guilty to charges of possessing extreme pornographic images that explicitly depicted bestiality involving adults and animals, as well as indecent photographs or pseudo-photos of children within the same period.

During the hearing, Sheriff Desmond Leslie expressed concern over MacKenzie's previous conviction and the apparent superficiality of the disposal measures taken at that time. Prosecutor Mr. Munro acknowledged the risk posed by MacKenzie but suggested that it could be managed within the community setting.

Instead of imprisonment, the sheriff opted for a community-based sentence. MacKenzie was sentenced to a three-year supervision order, which includes mandatory attendance at the 'Moving Forward Making Changes' program. Additionally, he was placed under a nine-month electronic tagging order, requiring him to remain at his home address from 7 pm to 7 am daily. He was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for a period of five years.

This case highlights the ongoing issues surrounding the possession and distribution of illegal images involving children and animals, and the challenges faced by authorities in managing offenders within the community while ensuring public safety.
