ALEXANDER JOHNSTON AND CHILD SEX ABUSE IN BUCKINGHAMSHIRE
A Buckinghamshire-based naval cadet instructor, Alexander Johnston, has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison after being convicted of multiple counts of child sex abuse. The 30-year-old, residing on Ennerdale Close in Bletchley, appeared at Luton Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to five separate charges related to engaging in sexual activities with a girl aged between 13 and 15.
The criminal case reveals that Johnston began grooming two of his cadets back in 2013.
Over a period of time, he built a relationship with these young girls through messaging and other forms of communication, gradually gaining their trust.
Once he had established a rapport, Johnston proceeded to engage in sexual acts with them.
This exploitation was carefully concealed for a period, but the victims eventually found the courage to come forward.
One of the victims, after completing a child safeguarding course in 2015, realized the extent of Johnston’s misconduct.
She learned that he had been manipulating and abusing his position of authority to exploit her.
As part of his grooming tactics, Johnston had also paid one of the victims fifty pounds a month, which he used to persuade her to keep silent about the abuse and prevent her from disclosing the misconduct to others.
The case drew considerable attention and was featured in a recent episode of the television series '24 Hours In Police Custody,' specifically in the episode titled 'Their Time Will Come,' which aired on Monday, June 12.
The authorities expressed their commitment to zero tolerance towards child sexual abuse.
Detective Inspector Richard Tilling, who is part of the Bedfordshire Police Child and Vulnerable Adult Abuse unit, commented on the case.
He emphasized that Johnston exploited his trusted role to prey on vulnerable young girls, grooming them and engaging in illegal sexual activities despite knowing they were under the legal age of consent.
Inspector Tilling stated, 'We will not tolerate child sexual abuse of any kind.
I hope that this sentence provides Johnston with time for reflection on his deplorable actions while serving as a warning to others who might consider similar behavior.' He also praised the bravery of the victims for coming forward and expressed hope that their courage would help them in beginning the process of moving past this traumatic chapter in their lives.
Overall, this case underscores the importance of vigilance within institutions and communities to protect children from predators.
It serves as a stark reminder of the potency of grooming and the damaging effects of abuse, as well as the crucial role that law enforcement and support systems play in bringing offenders to justice.
