JEALOUS STALKER OBSESSED WITH WOMAN BOSS JAILED FOR NEARLY KILLING HER PARTNER IN KNIFE ATTACK
A restaurant employee known for his obsessive feelings towards his supervisor has received a 25-year prison sentence after being convicted of a savage attempt to kill her partner.Alexander Cornell, aged 27, ambushed the victim in a multi-storey parking lot located in Bury St Edmunds last July, assaulting him with three stab wounds on his back and neck.
The court was informed that Cornell had been stalking the 39-year-old partner of his target, with whom he had worked for five years at a local restaurant.
Suffolk Police revealed that Cornell had purchased gifts for the woman, saved her photograph as his Apple Watch background, and repeatedly harassed her at her gym.
Despite her changing gyms three times to escape him, Cornell appeared at each new location even without her informing him of her movements.
The woman consistently made it clear that a romantic relationship with Cornell was impossible.
Hailing from Britannia Road in Ipswich, Cornell received a 20-year prison sentence, with an additional five-year extended license period.
This sentence followed his conviction for attempted murder at Ipswich Crown Court on Monday, 23 January 2023, after a trial that spanned six days.
Law enforcement officers found the victim with three stab wounds at the Parkway multi-storey car park on July 4.
The most serious wound, about three inches long, caused muscle damage.
Cornell was arrested on the same day and taken to Martlesham police investigation centre for questioning, during which he was charged.
Initially pleading not guilty to attempted murder, Cornell later admitted to charges of wounding with intent and possessing a blade in a public place during a previous hearing.
During sentencing, Judge Levett commended the police for their thorough investigation.
Detective Constable Guy Mitchell commented, “To see Cornell behind bars for a significant length of time is extremely satisfying as it is very fortunate that the injuries sustained were not ultimately fatal.
He added it was "an extremely nasty, violent and pre-meditated attack".
