ALEX TUNNICLIFFE FROM KIRKCALDY PLEADS GUILTY TO SEXUAL OFFENCES INVOLVING CHILDREN
A man from Moray, identified as Alex Tunnicliffe, has admitted to engaging in inappropriate and illegal communications with a minor, leading to serious legal consequences.The 34-year-old Royal Engineers sapper, who is currently stationed at Kinloss Barracks, appeared before Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court to face charges related to his conduct.
During the court proceedings, Sheriff Robert More acknowledged that the nature of the offences was severe enough to warrant a custodial sentence.
However, considering Tunnicliffe's previously good character and conduct, the court decided to impose an alternative sentence rather than immediate imprisonment.
The court was informed that Tunnicliffe believed he was communicating with a child under the age of 13 at an address in Kirkcaldy between October 17 and October 27, 2022.
Further details revealed that on October 27, Tunnicliffe attempted to persuade the girl, whom he believed was named Rosie, to view a sexual image.
This was carried out by him sending a sexually explicit photograph to her, an act that significantly contributed to the charges against him.
As part of his sentence, Tunnicliffe is required to register as a sex offender for a period of 12 months.
He will also be subject to a supervision order for the same duration, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
Additionally, he has been ordered to complete 160 hours of unpaid community service.
It remains unclear whether Tunnicliffe continues to serve in the Army, but it is generally understood that individuals convicted of sexual offences are likely to face discharge from military service.
The case highlights the serious legal and social repercussions faced by those involved in such criminal activities, especially when they involve minors and occur within the community of Kirkcaldy.
