BRISTOL COUPLE STARVED AND PHYSICALLY ABUSED DOG, COURT HEARS
The report details how James Marchant and Yvonne Malik from Bishopsworth, Bristol, subjected a young terrier named Boomer to starvation and physical abuse.
The RSPCA initiated an investigation after a neighbor recorded footage of Marchant grabbing Boomer by the neck, carrying him across the yard, and then tossing him over a gate onto a hard surface.
Witnesses shouted at him to stop, prompting police involvement and Marchant's subsequent arrest.
The video evidence revealed Boomer in distress and experiencing pain, with veterinarians noting immediate discomfort from the fall and that the dog was severely underweight at only 2kg (4.4lb).
Boomer was taken into RSPCA custody, where he gained weight and was eventually re-homed.
Marchant admitted to two charges related to animal welfare—throwing Boomer over the fence and neglecting his dietary needs—while Malik acknowledged failing to properly feed the dog.
As part of the sentencing, Marchant received a 10-year ban, was ordered to pay £400 in costs, and Malik received a 5-year ban, along with a fine of £120 and additional costs and a victim surcharge.
