MAN JAILED FOR RUNNING BROTHEL JUST OVER BORDER IN BRISTOL
A man responsible for running a prostitution operation has been sentenced to over four years in prison.Joseph Pike pleaded guilty to charges of human trafficking and operating a brothel at Bristol Crown Court on Thursday, June 11.
The court sentenced him to 49 months behind bars and issued a seven-year Slavery and Trafficking Prevention Order.
Pike, aged 62, was taken into custody after authorities found his details on a mobile phone confiscated during an unrelated probe into human trafficking.
Messages stored on his phone indicated that he had coordinated pick-ups of women from the airport and taken them to a brothel in Bedminster.
He also transported women to other locations, including brothels in Sheffield, Hemel Hempstead, and Kings Lynn.
His arrest occurred at his residence on February 25, where police also discovered two sex workers.
These individuals had a phone that provided additional evidence of Pike’s direct involvement in managing the brothel.
Detective Constable Daniel Wasiuk, involved in the investigation, stated: “Human trafficking is an abhorrent crime that inflicts lasting harm on victims.
“We hope this arrest and conviction demonstrate our commitment to tackling trafficking and holding those who exploit others accountable.
“We are also grateful for the support and expertise of our colleagues in the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU) during this case.
“We recognize the importance of community reports and encourage the public to continue sharing any suspicions or concerns related to exploitation.”
