ALAN THOMPSON FROM ABINGDON SENTENCED TO 15 MONTHS IN JAIL FOR BREACHING COURT ORDERS IN OXFORD
In a significant development at Oxford Crown Court, Alan Thompson, a 56-year-old resident of Abingdon, was sentenced to 15 months in prison last Friday after being found guilty of violating court-imposed restrictions designed to protect the public from potential harm. The conviction stems from Thompson’s deliberate breaches of a sexual harm prevention order, which he was legally bound to adhere to following previous convictions.Thompson’s violations included purchasing an iPad from Curry’s and utilizing the computers at Abingdon Library, actions explicitly prohibited under his court order. The order clearly stated that Thompson was not allowed to have any unsupervised contact with children under the age of 18, nor was he permitted to use any device capable of accessing the internet. Despite these restrictions, Thompson engaged in activities that directly contravened the conditions set to safeguard the community.
At the time of these breaches, Thompson was also serving a six-month suspended prison sentence, which was imposed for a separate violation of the same court order. This prior sentence underscored the ongoing concerns regarding his conduct and the potential risk he posed to society.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Michael Gledhill KC addressed Thompson directly, stating, “You decided you were above the law and could do exactly what you wanted.” The judge’s remarks highlighted the seriousness with which the court viewed Thompson’s repeated disregard for legal restrictions.
Thompson’s criminal history includes a conviction in 2018 for sex offences against children, which further emphasizes the importance of the court’s protective measures. Following the sentencing, law enforcement officials described Thompson as a ‘risk to the community,’ emphasizing that he was subject to various court-ordered conditions specifically designed to mitigate such risks and ensure public safety. The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by authorities to monitor and control individuals deemed a danger to society, especially those with a history of sexual offences.
