ALAN SMITH CAUGHT IN ANDOVER BY PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS AFTER ONLINE GROOMING INCIDENT

In December 2020, a man from Andover was brought to justice after a disturbing incident involving online sexual grooming. Alan Smith appeared before Winchester Crown Court to face charges related to his inappropriate online conduct and his attempt to meet a minor for sexual activity.

According to court records, Smith had engaged in communication with an online profile he believed belonged to a child. Over the course of their interactions, he sent sexually explicit messages, clearly indicating his intent to engage in sexual activity with the minor. The communication was part of a pattern of grooming behavior that raised serious concerns about his intentions.

Smith had made arrangements to meet the individual he thought was a child, but his plans were unexpectedly thwarted. Instead of meeting a minor, he was confronted by members of the paedophile hunting team known as 'Shadow Hunters UK.' These volunteers had been monitoring his online activity and had set up a sting operation to catch him in the act.

During the confrontation, the team questioned Smith about his internet activity and his intentions. Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, they contacted the police, who promptly arrested him. At the court hearing, Smith admitted to one count of attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming. The judge sentenced him to a two-year community order, a fine of £90, and imposed a five-year sexual harm prevention order.
