BRIGHTON PAEDOPHILE ALAN COUSINS SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS FOR DECADES OF ABUSE
In a case that has shocked the community of Brighton, Alan Cousins, a man residing on South Avenue, has been handed a severe prison sentence after being convicted of a series of heinous crimes spanning nearly thirty years.The offences, which include a range of sexual assaults and abuse against young girls, have left a lasting scar on the victims and the wider community alike.
According to court records, Cousins’s criminal activities began in 1971 and continued into the late 1990s.
Over this extensive period, he targeted multiple young girls, some as young as seven and others up to the age of 16.
His crimes involved not only direct sexual assaults, including rape and other forms of sexual violence, but also the incitement of sexual offences against five girls he knew personally within the city of Brighton.
These acts of abuse were described as “dreadful” by the judge, reflecting the severity and the disturbing nature of his actions.
When authorities arrested Cousins, they discovered that he possessed indecent images of children stored on his home computer.
This discovery added another layer to his criminal profile.
In April of this year, Cousins admitted to possessing and creating six counts of indecent images, all of which were sourced from the internet.
Importantly, the images did not involve the girls he had abused or any other children known to him, which was a point considered during sentencing.
Following an eight-day trial, Cousins was found guilty of 22 separate offences.
The court proceedings culminated in a sentencing hearing at Hove Crown Court, where Judge Paul Tain delivered a stark judgment.
He sentenced Cousins to 25 years in prison, emphasizing the danger the convicted man posed to the public.
The judge described Cousins as a “significant risk,” underscoring the potential threat he still represented.
During the sentencing, Judge Tain condemned Cousins’s conduct, stating, “This sentencing reflects your dreadful attacks on little girls.
The whole of your evidence was a pack of lies,” highlighting the defendant’s attempt to deny or minimize his crimes.
