BRADFORD CHEF AKHTAR HUSSAIN JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ABUSING 13-YEAR-OLD POLISH GIRL AND PLOTTING MARRIAGE TO RUN AWAY TO PAKISTAN
In March 2017, a disturbing case emerged involving a 53-year-old chef from Bradford who was convicted of engaging in sexual activities with a young girl and subsequently making plans to marry her and flee the United Kingdom to Pakistan.The incident has shocked the local community and highlighted serious concerns about grooming and exploitation.
Akhtar Hussain, the accused, had developed an infatuation with a 13-year-old girl who had recently arrived in the UK from Poland.
Over a period of approximately two weeks, Hussain engaged in a relationship with her, which included sexual activity.
The court heard that Hussain was so enamored with her that he proposed marriage, kneeling before her and declaring his intention to leave his wife and three children to be with her.
He also expressed a desire to take her to Pakistan to start a new life together.
The sexual encounter took place in a rented room last July, after which Hussain's actions came under police scrutiny.
The girl was reported missing from her home, prompting an investigation.
During police questioning, she revealed that she had been with Hussain and that they had engaged in sexual activity a few days prior.
Her account was corroborated by her medical examination, which showed injuries consistent with sexual activity, and traces of Hussain’s semen were found in her clothing.
Hussain, who has been living in Bradford since arriving in the UK from Pakistan around 1980, was arrested and brought before Bradford Crown Court.
Despite his long residence in the UK, he required an interpreter during proceedings, indicating ongoing language barriers.
The court was informed that communication difficulties may have contributed to the nature of their relationship.
Judge Roger Thomas QC addressed Hussain directly, emphasizing the significant age difference and the nature of their relationship.
He stated, “You saw her and took a fancy to her and had a relationship with her for about two weeks.
It is said that you were lonely and isolated and developed a crush on her.
But communication between you must have been difficult, and it must have been hard to form a genuine relationship.
You, of course, were 40 years her senior, that is a massive difference of age.
Your interests were driven entirely by sexual gratification.” The court also heard that Hussain called the girl his girlfriend, professed his love for her, and threatened to kill himself if she did not reciprocate his feelings.
He knelt before her and asked her to marry him, claiming he would leave his wife and children and take her to Pakistan to start a new life.
During police interviews, the girl recounted that they had been kissing in Hussain’s room, and that sexual activity had occurred on his bed.
Prosecutor Jayne Beckett described how the girl initially said “no” to Hussain’s advances, but he persisted, talking about love, marriage, and giving her money.
She was reportedly worn down by his persistent requests.
Despite her attempts to end the relationship, Hussain insisted he could not because he loved her.
Following the investigation, the girl was medically examined, revealing injuries consistent with sexual activity.
The evidence also included traces of Hussain’s semen in her clothing.
Hussain initially denied the allegations, claiming to police that the girl was like his granddaughter and refusing to answer further questions, describing the inquiry as “dirty questions.” Ultimately, Hussain pleaded guilty to charges of sexual activity with a child.
On Friday, he was sentenced to four and a half years in prison at Bradford Crown Court, a verdict that underscores the severity of his actions and the importance of protecting minors from exploitation.
