AIDAN MCATEER'S SHOCKING INSTAGRAM POSTS FROM LIVERPOOL PRISON REVEAL DISREGARD FOR JUSTICE

In March 2020, a disturbing incident unfolded involving Aidan McAteer, a man currently serving a nine-year sentence in prison for the tragic death of four-year-old Violet-Grace Youens. The young girl from Merseyside lost her life after McAteer, then 26 years old, struck her and her grandmother, Angela French, with a stolen vehicle at a high speed of 83mph. Following the collision, McAteer fled the country to evade police capture, only to return later to the UK. Upon his return, he was sentenced for death by dangerous driving, a verdict that sparked outrage across Merseyside, especially considering that he was expected to serve less time than the duration Violet-Grace was alive.

Despite his incarceration, McAteer has demonstrated a blatant lack of remorse and a troubling attitude towards his crimes. Recently, he posted a series of provocative messages on his Instagram account, which has raised serious concerns about his attitude and potential influence on others. Just days prior, he shared an image accompanied by a caption stating, "am on my way home," while describing his current prison environment as a "s**t hole." The image itself bore the words: "Admit it. A lot of s**t got to you and you changed because of it."

However, the content of his caption suggests that McAteer has not undergone any meaningful change. Instead, he describes his life as a "rollercoaster" and talks about the "scars" he bears, implying emotional or psychological trauma. He wrote: "Real talk my life been a rollercoaster. Some people wouldn’t live a day in my shoes. I’ve got scars that will live with me forever. Good job I’m with the lads and got the fam and am on my way home. Not 200 miles away in some s**t hole." This statement indicates that he may not be facing early release but could be transferred to a facility closer to Merseyside.

Adding to his provocative online presence, McAteer posted another image on the same day, which appears to mock police procedures. The picture features a caption that reads: "Now they’re telling people to work from their house. I tried that years ago…and it kept getting raided." This comment seems to make light of police raids, possibly referencing his own history of criminal activity.

Over the weekend, McAteer shared additional posts, including a nostalgic photo of himself wearing a helmet and standing beside two scrambler bikes, as well as a picture showing him with arms around two fellow prisoners, suggesting close bonds formed during his time inside. These online activities are particularly alarming given that this is only the second time he has been caught posting on Instagram during his incarceration. The first instance was in August 2017, when he shared an image of a birthday card from fellow inmates, which read "HMP Birthday Boy" and included the message, "You can lock the locks but you can’t stop the clocks." He captioned it: "Lil b day card off the lads on the wing x nice one everybody for me cards n messages means allot c yas all soon."

Following his recent posts, McAteer received an additional ten days added to his sentence, extending his time behind bars until the end of December 2021. The Echo contacted the Ministry of Justice regarding McAteer’s online activity, prompting a search of his current cell. A prison spokesperson confirmed that a mobile phone was recovered during the search and that the social media account had been taken down. They emphasized that measures such as x-ray scanners and phone-blocking technology are increasingly effective in preventing inmates from smuggling phones into prisons, and assured that those responsible for such breaches will face appropriate punishment.
